What's Changing for B Corps?

B Corp certification has long been a symbol of responsible business practices. In early 2025, B Lab released the seventh major update to their standards.

The new standards require businesses to take meaningful action across key social, environmental, and governance Impact Topic areas. By meeting these expectations, companies can demonstrate leadership in responsible business practices and impact management. These standards have been designed to enhance impact, provide clarity on what it means to be a leading business, and integrate feedback from various stakeholders over its development.

The new standards take company size into account, recognizing that smaller businesses have different capacities and resources than larger enterprises.

Size is determined by the number of workers OR revenue, whichever is higher.

Under B Lab's 2025 Purpose & Governance (PSG) requirements, B Corps must now complete a materiality assessment. This isn't optional—it's now a core requirement for Large, X Large, and XX Large companies and a best practice for all others.
